Okay, so I'm sitting at home watching TV, Cartoon Network in fact (one of the best things to ever happen to TV). Anyway I'm watching the "What A Cartoon" show and suddenly I am bombarded by three little girls with super powers. They are sort of drawn in the Japanese Anime super deformed style, but there is late retro style (50/60's) art in the background (like the work on Ren and Stimpy). Big eyes, featureless arms and legs.  The Powerpuff Girls were on the air, and I was waiting to see if they would get me.
    It was the episode titled "Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins" and there were several things that hooked me, but the concept of a meat based jam just made me laugh, and when the Meat Hair fight scene began, man, I couldn't stop smiling to myself when Fuzzy is just walking along and Bubbles trips him to the astonishment of her sisters.
    I was in, but to my dismay, the only other short was Crime 101.  These two disturbingly funny little shows had sucked me in the way the sink drain does greasy water.
    Then I heard . . . they were getting their own series, and I was stoked.  This was one of the first times in my life that I wasn't let down by television. Usually it was my favorite show being canceled because it didn't capture some mythical demographic, or it being ruined by a cast change involving Suzzane Sommers.
    However, before I go any farther, I should let you know a little about these three groovy chicks.
 

	Blossom To start, she is the leader of the group. A tough fighter but also cautious. As the series progresses, we discover she is the goody two shoes of the bunch, dropping the dime on her sisters to their father, Professor Utonium, whenever they do something wrong or silly. She's my third favorite.
	Buttercup She is the ass kicker of the team. She is all about fighting (sometimes to the point of being reckless). Her and Blossom fight with each other sometimes. She is the rocker of the group and her theme and fight music always involves some groovy guitar work. She is my favorite.
	Bubbles She is the girliest of the group. She likes puppies and likes to jump rope and color. She is prone to crying, but only when reasonable. However, don't get her wrong, she can rock with the best of them. She also is the straight girl for a lot of Buttercup's remarks. She's my second favorite.

A Sticky Situation	THE PLOT Craig McCracken's early creation with the girls being called the Whoopass Girls.  The girls fight the Amoeba Boys. BEST MOMENT Seeing the Amoeba Boys actually committing crimes and not being annoying. THE VILLAINS The Amoeba Boys.  They are annoying.
Meat FuzzyLumpkins	THE PLOT A "What A Cartoon" Show episode. Big hairy redneck monster with deely boppers on his head turns people into meat. BEST MOMENT Bubbles tripping Fuzzy to the dismay of the other Girls. THE VILLAIN Fuzzy Lumkins.  Funny in this one. Felt kind of sorry for him. SOUND Meat Hair!
Crime 101	THE PLOT The other WACS episode. The Amoeba Boys try to be criminals so the Powerpuffs have to show them how it's done by robbing a bank. BEST MOMENT The way the Girls plead guilty. THE VILLAINS The Amoeba Boys.  They are all annoying. Don't understand why Bubbles thinks they're cute.
Monkey See, Doggy Do	THE PLOT Mojo Jojo turns everyone into dogs, even the Girls. BEST MOMENT Bubbles playing with the Professor, who is now a dog. Puppy! THE VILLAIN Mojo Jojo.  Funny when he is taunting the Girls.
Mommy Fearest	THE PLOT The Professor falls in love with a woman who turns out to be Seduca and almost turns on the Girls BEST MOMENT Bubbles trying to get away from the Professor when it's time to go to bed. THE VILLAIN Seducia.  Oh I like her. Hope to see her again.
Insect Inside	THE PLOT Roach Coach and his roaches attack Townsville and the Girls can't squish him because the Professor told them to treat bugs nice. BEST MOMENT Bubbles mantra of "get away" while being chased by a roach. THE VILLAIN Roach Coach.  Another annoying one, hope he never appears again.
Powerpuff Bluff	THE PLOT Three criminals dress up as the Powerpuff Girls and do some crimes. BEST MOMENT Buttercup hitting Blossom and Bubbles, thinking they were the fakes (but I think she knew they weren't). THE VILLAINS Nameless Villains.  The one who liked dressing up as the girls was funny.
Octi Evil	THE PLOT Androgynous villain named Him makes Bubbles' stuffed octopus talk to separate the Girls. BEST MOMENT Buttercup saying "oops" after apparently squishing an old lady. THE VILLAIN Him.  The voice is annoying, but there is something so wrong that I dig the character.
Geshundfight	THE PLOT The Amoeba Boys while trying to commit a crime get a cold and infect Townsville. BEST MOMENT Buttercup explaining to the Girls why she yelled at the Amoeba Boys. THE VILLAINS The Amoeba Boys.  Yep, I really don't like these guys.
Buttercrush	THE PLOT Bad guys take advantage of Buttercup because she has a crush on their leader and almost beats the Girls.  One of my favorite episodes. BEST MOMENT Buttercup rocking out with Ace. THE VILLAINS The Gangrene Gang.  Little Arturo is the best, I love his voice. Ace is okay. The rest are annoying.
Fuzzy Logic	THE PLOT Fuzzy Lumpkins goes plum crazy. BEST MOMENT Buttercup commenting on the fact that Bubbles was talking to Squirrels again. THE VILLAIN Fuzzy Lumkins.  Okay, now he is getting annoying. There was a big debate in the Newsgroups about this.
Boogie Frights	THE PLOT The Boogie Man has a plan to get rid of daylight. BEST MOMENT Buttercup digging the night life and Bubbles agreeing with her (it's easy to dance to). THE VILLAIN The Boogie Man.  He rocks. Seventies funk, pimp daddy. SOUND Buttercup Likes To Be An Instigator.
Abracadaver	THE PLOT Dead magician attacks Townsville seeking revenge on a big-eyed girl. BEST MOMENT The Girls scared while watching a Zombie movie. THE VILLAIN Abracadaver.  Entertaining. Springboard for a cool ending (It's magic silly).
Telephonies	THE PLOT The Gangrene Gang use the Powerpuff Hotline to make crank calls to Mojo Jojo, Fuzzy Lumpkins and HIM. BEST MOMENT The grilling of Mojo Jojo by the girls. THE VILLAINS The Gangrene Gang, Him, Mojo Jojo, Fuzzy Lumkins.  Further cements my love for Little Arturo. SOUND We Are All Citizens.
Tough Love	THE PLOT HIM makes all of Townsville hate the Girls. BEST MOMENT The Angry looking Powerpuff Hotline. THE VILLAIN Him.  This character gets more disturbing.
Major Competition	THE PLOT Townsville has a new super hero who turns out to be a fake. BEST MOMENT The scene where the girls hair is all wind blown. THE VILLAIN Major Man.  Not really a villain, but who cares because we will not see him again.
Mr. Mojo's Rising	THE PLOT Mojo kidnaps the Professor, and spins a tale of his origin.  He also gets the girls powers. BEST MOMENT Bubbles saying "I don't believe it! We had our very own pet monkey." THE VILLAIN Mojo Jojo.  His constant restating of the facts make him my favorite.  It looks like he is their arch rival. SOUND Evil Geniuses Are Made Not Born.
Paste Makes Waste	THE PLOT A kid from Pokey Oaks Kindergarten eats some radioactive paste and becomes a monster. BEST MOMENT The Power plant guy who has tentacles grow from his face saying "Woah, that's definitely no good." THE VILLAIN Elmer.  Quite an angry little kid/monster. Reminded me of two kids I knew in school. SOUND That's Definately No Good.
Ice Sore	THE PLOT Blossom discovers she has ice breath and makes the girls jealous, and saves the day. BEST MOMENT Bubbles bagging on Pablo in Spanish.  It's her special power. THE VILLAIN No bad guy here, just a giant comet/ice ball. SOUND Make The Floor All Ice
Bubblevicious	THE PLOT Bubbles goes hard core to prove that she is just as good a fighter as Buttercup and Blossom. BEST MOMENT Bubbles tagging Blossom and dogging her out. THE VILLAINS Mojo Jojo and a series of nameless creatures in the danger room.  Does he get his butt whipped. SOUND You Were Beaten Down Sister.
The Bare Facts	THE PLOT The girls tell the story of how the Mayor was kidnapped and how they rescued him. BEST MOMENT Bubbles' drawings of the action, and all of the girls perspectives of how it went. THE VILLAIN Mojo Jojo, though only by narration. SOUND Not Making Any Sense.
Cat Man Do	THE PLOT The girls save a kitty who later hypnotizes the Professor to commit crimes for a villain. BEST MOMENT The looks on the girls faces when the Professor tells them they can't have the kitty. THE VILLAIN Some evil intelligent cat.  I don't expect to see this weak character again.
Impeach Fuzz	THE PLOT The Mayor loses the election to Fuzzy and Arakansas-style action occurs. BEST MOMENT Miss Bellum forced to do the Daisy Duke bit. THE VILLAINS Fuzzy Lumkins and his other inbred relatives.  He was actually entertaining in this one.
Just Another Manic Mojo	THE PLOT Just a normal day for Mojo.  We see his daily life and a failed attempt to beat the girls. BEST MOMENT Mojo sitting at the street crossing, begging the signal to "please change." THE VILLAIN Mojo Jojo is having a bad day trying to beat the girls. SOUND Curses!
Mime For A Change	THE PLOT A obscenely happy clown gets transformed into a bitter mime who can take the color and sound from anything. BEST MOMENT Bubbles absolutely going bonkers when all of the color is gone. She has a serious crayon obsession. THE VILLAIN Rainbow The Clown/Mister Mime.  Very disquieting. SOUND My Crayons Aren't Magic.
The Rowdyruff Boys	THE PLOT Mojo Jojo creates the boy equivalent of the Girls, who nearly beat the girls. The first half hour show. BEST MOMENT It may sound cheesy and even sexist, but the scene with the girls looking all cute.  It worked for me. THE VILLAINS Mojo Jojo and the Rowdyruff Boys.
Uh Oh Dynamo	THE PLOT The Professor builds a giant robot to help the Girls if they need it and they do against a monster. BEST MOMENT The massive destruction of Townsville with little to no remorse.  Every place needs a little urban renewal. THE VILLAIN A giant blowfish from a lake in Little Tokyo.
Stuck Up Up And Away	THE PLOT A new student who is very rich wants to be a Powerpuff Girl.  When she can't, she fights. BEST MOMENT I'll be honest, I'm pretty neutral on this episode.  Nothing really stood out. THE VILLAIN A stuck up little rich girl (Princess) with super equipment.
School House Rocked	THE PLOT The Gangrene Gang go to Pokey Oaks and the girls aren't allowed to fight. BEST MOMENT The wonderful sound of Voit Dodge balls hitting people. THE VILLAIN The Gangrene Gang.  I always dig these guys.  The only problem I have is that Arturo's voice has changed.
Collect Her	THE PLOT A overzealous fan who collects Powerpuff stuff decides to collect the girls. BEST MOMENT Buttercup saying that the guys collection was "seven kinds of creepy." THE VILLAIN A sucky villain, with no powers. SOUND Seven Kinds Of Creepy
Supper Villain	THE PLOT An average guy can't take having the Powerpuffs as neighbors any more and decides to become a villain. BEST MOMENT Buttercup (who has some of the best lines) slinging a pie at the "kin of evil." THE VILLAIN Another sucky villain (by design), with no powers.
Birthday Bash	THE PLOT It's the girls birthday but the villians of Townsville try to wreck it. BEST MOMENT The girls big rush to open their presents. THE VILLAINS Mojo Jojo, Princess, The Ameoba Boys and Him. SOUND The Birthday Cake Bit.
Too Pooped To Puff	THE PLOT The girls get tired of helping Townsville with every little thing. BEST MOMENT The Professor whining about not being able to reach the remote control. THE VILLAINS Random monsters. SOUND The Powerpuff Answering Machine.
Beat Your Greens	THE PLOT Aliens resembling broccoli attack Townsville and all of the children must eat their veggies to save the day. BEST MOMENT When the farm kids come in riding goats like motorcycles. THE VILLAIN Alien Broccoli with lots of corny vegetable references. SOUND It's Not A Hamster
Down N' Dirty	THE PLOT Buttercup decides she doesn't need to take a bath and stinks up the joint. BEST MOMENT The Professors curt order for Buttercup to take a bath. THE VILLAIN A series of random monsters. SOUND You Stink, Take A Bath
Dream Scheme	THE PLOT The people of the world are put to sleep rhymed like a twisted Dr. Seuss story. BEST MOMENT A sad episode in general, the still shot on the left was the best part. THE VILLAIN The Sandman. SOUND Your Ego Is Showing
You Snooze, You Lose	THE PLOT The Amoeba Boys stumble across one of Mojo's plans, and the girls help them carry it out. BEST MOMENT Mojo steadily losing it as he looks for his plan. THE VILLAINS The Amoeba Boys and Mojo Jojo. SOUND Mojo You Creep
Slave The Day	THE PLOT Big Billy of the Gangreen Gang befreinds the girls and causes some trouble. BEST MOMENT For some reason, the concept of cowboy bank robbers on horses strikes me as hilarious. THE VILLAINS The Gangreen Gang and an appearance by the Salami Swami (Mentioned in Meat Fuzzy Lumkins). SOUND Where's Billy?
Los Dos Mojos	THE PLOT Bubbles takes a hit to the head and thinks she's Mojo Jojo. BEST MOMENT I laughed a lot in this episode because of the mocking of the way Mojo Talks.  Especially Mojo's denial of it. THE VILLAINS Mojo Jojo and Bubbles as Mojo Jojo. SOUND You've Got To Be Kidding!
A Very Special Blossom	THE PLOT It's Fathers Day and the girls all get the Professor gifts. Blossom goes a little too far. BEST MOMENT The scene where the Mayor lights off about being charged for their services and what he says. THE VILLAINS Mojo (briefly). SOUND The Hobby Store Was Closed.
Daylight Savings	THE PLOT The girls are worn out from all the stupid tasks they have to do so have to go to bed early. BEST MOMENT The parade of villians (Here Comes the Circus of Evil). THE VILLAINS Mojo Jojo and brief cameos by other villians. SOUND The Parade's Over?
Mo Job	THE PLOT Princess hires Mojo JoJo to create a plan to beat the Girls. BEST MOMENT The vast array of new powers used by the girls. THE VILLAINS Mojo Jojo and Princess. SOUND To Have Known Puff And Lost It.
Pet Feud	THE PLOT The Proffessor creates the "perfect" pet and chaos ensues. BEST MOMENT The bit where the Professor tells the Mayor he cannot have a BEBO. THE VILLAINS None really, unless you count the BEBO. SOUND We're playing hide and seek.
Imaginary Fiend	THE PLOT A new kid shows up at Pokey Oaks and his only friend is imaginary, and he's evil. BEST MOMENT The scene where Bubbles looks like Cartman from South Park after falling into the coat rack. THE VILLAINS Patches, Mike's friend. SOUND
Cootie Gras	THE PLOT The girls are afraid of cooties and Mojo JoJo uses it to his advantage. BEST MOMENT Not a very enjoyable episode.  There is a pleasurable level of uneasyness that is felt when Mojo slides up next to the cootie kid. THE VILLAINS Mojo JoJo (and the cootie kid). SOUND Oh No, I Am Powerless.
The Powerpuff Girls Best Rainy Day Story Ever	THE PLOT It's raining and the girls decide to pretend to have an adventure. BEST MOMENT A pretty good angle.  Bubble playing the Mayor is a pretty good bit (and imitation). THE VILLAINS Mojo JoJo (only as a cameo and a metaphor). SOUND Nobody Tells Me When To Come!
Just Desserts	THE PLOT Harold Smith and his family are out to get the girls. BEST MOMENT Moms outfit is pretty disturbing, especially with that smile of hers.  It's a better episode than the first one they appeared in. THE VILLAINS Who would have thought we'd see Harold Smith so soon. SOUND That's Not A Good Reason.
Twisted Sister	THE PLOT The girls are worn out from saving Towsville, so they decide to create a sister. BEST MOMENT The entire rapid-paced sequence of the girls saving the days. THE VILLAINS Generic villians, as well as the Gangreen Gang. SOUND "Accidently" Spilling Chemical X.
Cover Up	THE PLOT Buttercup believes her special blanket is the reason she is such a good fighter. BEST MOMENT Good fight scenes and good old-fashioned Buttercup worship. THE VILLAINS Generic villians.
Speed Demon	THE PLOT The girls inadvertantly travel forward into time. BEST MOMENT Buttercup picking on Bubbles and her powderpuff hair.  Notice the straight hair is strting to show up more. THE VILLAINS Him (disturbing, as usual).
Mojo Jonesin	THE PLOT Mojo hooks up some school kids with Chemical X, but they have to fight the girls.  The episode is a "say no to drugs" deal, but subtle enough not to be annoying. BEST MOMENT The scene to the left.  Flying wheelchair kid whooping up on Bubbles. THE VILLAINS Some classmates and the man, Mojo Jojo. SOUND Mojo's Sales Pitch.
Something's A Ms.	THE PLOT Ms. Bellum is acting real strange (and sexy) but it's all just a trap by Seducia. BEST MOMENT The fight scene in the pool between Ms. Bellum and Seducia.  Ms. Bellum looked pretty hot. THE VILLAINS Seducia. SOUND Ms. Bellum Threatens Seducia.
Slumbering With The Enemy	THE PLOT Mojo invites himself to the girls slumber party as Mojesha. BEST MOMENT The whole thing was just distressing, but the series of shots where Mojesha and the girls play dress-up was totally creepy. THE VILLAINS Mojo Jojo. SOUND What's The Deal With Mojesha?
Fallen Arches	THE PLOT A bunch of old school supervillians go on a crime spree and the girls have to enlist the aid of some old super heroes. BEST MOMENT The art-deco style newsreel. THE VILLAINS Mastermind, Counterpart and Cohort (The Ministry of Pain). SOUND Time Pieces.
The Mane Event	THE PLOT Bubbles and Buttercup give Blossom a really bad haircut and wakiness ensues. BEST MOMENT Every time some breaks out laughing at Blossoms hair. THE VILLAINS A giant beholder. SOUND Father-Daughter Talk.
Town and Out	THE PLOT The Professor and the girls move to the big city and things are not the same. BEST MOMENT A real Mayor lighting into the girls about the damage they've caused. THE VILLAINS Petty criminals. SOUND The Mayor Says Some Words.
Child Fearing	THE PLOT The Professor is at a convention and Mojo Jojo is the babysitter. BEST MOMENT Mojo Jojo making dinner for the girls. THE VILLAINS Mojo Jojo.
Criss Cross Crisis
Bubblevision	THE PLOT Bubbles' eyesight is going bad so she has to wear glasses. BEST MOMENT The scenes where the Professor is talking to Bubbles and she can't see him. THE VILLAINS A giant ant. SOUND Dork.
Bought and Scold	THE PLOT Princess is the new mayor and she makes crime legal in Townsville. BEST MOMENT The Gangreen Gang terrorizing Poaky Oaks. THE VILLAINS A cavalcade of villians, but mostly Proncess.

    Now that you have the baseline information, let me expand on this. First off, I am a guy and part of the reason I dig them is because they are chicks. But as I reflect on it, it starts to get deep. They are scripted like siblings would act. They argue, they have different personalities.
    I also dig the little things in the show. All of the pop culture references, the campy style that all of the non-villian, non-Powerpuff characters are drawn. The narrator makes the show work, with his cries of hurry girls, hurry! and of course, the one used on all of the commercials, saving the world before bed time. It's the little jokes they make about themselves like the Professor explaining to them that the Girls look freakish to Cockroaches or Seducia calling them big-eyed freaks. It's the fight scenes and the background music that goes with it, especially the bongos (like in the Octi Evil fight). It's the dirty looks they give each other, and it's the fact that they are so damn cute, but not to the point of annoyance.
    There are people out there who have made comparisons with the Sailor Scouts of Sailor Moon . . . I'm not sure. I never really liked Sailor Moon, even when I saw it in Japan where they got topless. Sure they have similarly colored outfits, but even Bubbles isn't as whiny as that chick with the round things in her hair. If they are similar, big deal.
    In summary, I hope they have a long life on Cartoon Network. I have all of the episodes on tape and have burned MPEG's of all of them, taking up a comfortable 1.2 GB of space.
